Organization of processes for complex mining and processing of mineral raw materials from coal mines in the context of the concept of sustainable development

Purpose. The research purpose is to form the principles and procedures for developing an organizational concept of complex mining of minerals from coal mines using the example of a promising model of transition of the PJSC “DTEK Pavlohradvuhillia” mines to multi-product production of clean drinking water, utilization of methane, secondary coal from rock dumps and slurry reservoirs, low-grade thermal energy of mine groundwater and associated raw materials from desalination waste. Methods. The instrumental basis of the research is the methodology of the process approach to organizing multi-product activities of an enterprise. In addition, an integrated approach is used, including an analysis of existing experience and available complex coal mining and processing technologies. Findings. The paper presents the research results of the prerequisites for the development of innovative technological solutions related to the integrated use of mineral raw materials formed in the process of coal mining and processing. It has been revealed that at the present stage the technological, environmental and economic aspects of such innovations have been sufficiently developed, while the organizational issues regarding the balanced interaction of multi-product production units have poorly been studied. The necessity has been substantiated, as well as the content and sequence of actions have been determined for the development of an organizational concept of complex mining and processing of mineral raw materials in the conditions of PJSC “DTEK Pavlohradvuhillia”. Originality. The principles and procedures for developing an organizational concept of a multi-product enterprise, formed in the research process, provide further development of a methodological basis for searching and substantiating innovative solutions for complex mining of mineral resources from coal mines. They can be used to assess the efficiency and identify weaknesses in current processes for mining and utilization of coal, thermal energy, methane gas, groundwater, dry residue chemicals from desalination and coal mining waste, and to analyse and make changes to improve performance and reduce costs. Practical implications. The proposed complex of organizational solutions based on the process approach tools to ensure the effective implementation of a promising production model for mining and processing of mineral resources in PJSC “DTEK Pavlohradvuhillia” coal mines provides an opportunity to predict the results and develop development strategies based on various scenarios, analyze the interaction of various factors and their influence on the results of the production complex functioning, while reducing costs for experiments and testing of various production technologies.

Development of a multifunctional installation of fine dispersed irrigation

The intensification of the processes of mining and processing of mineral raw materials, characteristic of the modern development of mining production, is associated with significant dust pollution of the atmospheric air. As an economical and mobile means of dust suppression, it is recommended to use the developed impulse fine-dispersed irrigation system "Ustimor". The principle of operation of the installation is based on the pulsed displacement of water from the water-air tank by the combustion products of the fuel-air mixture under high pressure (>5 MPa). Experimental and industrial tests of the installation were carried out at the tailings storage facility of PJSC "Ingulets Mining and Processing Plant". The range of the installation is on average 120-130 m. The area of the irrigated surface in one cycle of operation is from 500 m2 to 750 m2. Fine spraying was observed along the entire length of the jet flight. In one hour of operation, the installation can release from 5 to 30 tons of water into the atmosphere in the form of drizzle. The intensity of watering for one work cycle is on average 0.85 l/m2. The possibility of autonomous operation of the installation and its remote control through the SCADA system has been confirmed. The installation of pulse fine-dispersed irrigation is recommended for use as a means of spraying liquid by the method of fine-dispersed irrigation on open areas of surfaces where dust is intensively swept and suspended. It can be used for dust suppression and humidification at tailings storage facilities, warehouses of bulk materials, landfills, technological highways. The "Ustimor" installation can also be used for fine-dispersed irrigation of plantations, vineyards, gardens, etc. Irrigation of leaf cover and soil surface will lower their temperature by 7 - 10 °C in the sun and by 6 - 6.6 °C in the shade.

Innovative Environmentally Safe Processes for the Extraction of Rare and Rare-Earth Elements from Complex Ores of Perplexed Material Composition

Domestic and world tendencies of involvement in the processing of ores of rare metals (RMs) and rare-earth metals (REMs) are shown. It is shown that the main direction of innovative activity is the development and application of modern breakthrough technologies for complex processing of mineral raw materials with the production of high-quality products while minimizing environmental damage. The main deposits of rare and rare-earth metals are systematized from the standpoint of the content of the main components, concentrator minerals and the main enrichment methods. The main principal technological schemes of processing of some deposits of RMs and REMs in Russia (Lovozer, Tomtor, and Afrikand deposits) are given. Options for involving technogenic and off-balance raw materials in the processing in order to extract strategic metals are considered. It is substantiated that innovative environmentally friendly processes for the extraction of rare and rare-earth metals from complex ores of complex material composition are being actively developed in Russia at present.

Ensuring the integrated processing of mineral raw materials remains a relevant topic of modern research due to its socio-economic, environmental and technological significance, as well as one of the key conditions for sustainable development of Russia, defined by the Strategy for the development of mineral resource base up to 2035. At the same time, the practical realization of this concept continues to be occasional and non-systemic. Under the new conditions of sanctions restrictions, the acute need for import substitution, taking into account the regional specifics of strategic mineral resources in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation, it is necessary to change the paradigm of development of the resource and raw materials complex of Russia from extensive to intensive one and to shift the research context towards readiness of regional economic systems to such changes. Considering the accumulated scientific background, the article attempts to consolidate and systematize the research on the topic of integrated processing of mineral resources in relation to the factors that determine readiness and cause resistance to the practical implementation of the concept on the part of economic entities as key actors in this process. The scientific novelty of the study consists in the systematization of existing positions on the issue of transition to the implementation of the concept of integrated processing of mineral resources to develop a set of indicators as a tool for assessing the readiness and resistance of the regional economic system to the paradigm shift. The research method used is a review of publications on the topic of integrated processing of mineral resources. As a result of the study, 20 factors were identified and systematized into 5 groups. The obtained classification of factors can become the basis for further research of the question posed in this article, which will allow assessing the readiness for changes at the regional level, to identify obstacles that hinder their implementation, and to determine the directions of search for solutions to eliminating or levelling of the identified resistance factors.

Comprehensive Recovery of Metals in Tailings Utilization with Mechanochemical Activation

The paper analyzes the results of metal extraction from tailings of ore processing based on traditional approaches. The history of methods of secondary processing of mineral raw materials is described. The technique and features of mechanochemical activation of the leaching process of metal ores and coals are described. The results of laboratory studies of a new mechanochemical technology for metal extraction are presented. A description of the compromise optimal criterion formulated in the model of extraction of metals from tailings with substandard mineral raw materials based on the mathematical planning of the experiment, regression analysis methods and consideration of sanitary standards for the disposal of processing tailings is proposed. Mechanochemical technology results in economic and environmental effects from the utilization of processing tailings and radical strengthening of the mineral resource base of the mining industry.

Mineral resources and raw materials as a significant potential of Republika Srpska

Mining is one of the oldest human activities and industries and involves exploration and exploitation of mineral resources. In addition, there are many areas of geology with the basic goal of collecting information for understanding the Earth's structure, and planning and conducting various types of geological research of mineral resources and raw materials. Mining is the holder of the mineral raw materials management like a non-renewable natural resource. The utilization value of mineral raw materials increases but constantly changes, depending on the needs, so the task of the mining and geological professions is to continuously valorization of their value. Miners and geologists should be actively involved in spatial planning and solving of potential activation of a particular mine location in terms of increasing the number of inhabitants and reducing living space with adequate environmental protection. Mining activities are predetermined by the place of mineral resources and raw materials occurrence and are limited by the real conditions and possibilities of a certain community and society. It is necessary to determine the real possibilities of exploitation because the organization of mining production at any cost is humanistically, ecologically and economically speaking, unsustainable. The mineral resources of the Republic Srpska enable the exploitation and processing of mineral raw materials in the metal, metal processing, construction, chemical, cement, ceramics construction materials industry etc. The largest part (over 90% in terms of value) are reproductive materials for processing in other industries, a smaller part are products that go directly to the market. In the conditions of increased and faster technological development and the tendency of increasing exploitation of natural resources in the world with changes in previous conceptions of life, there was a need to analyze the sustainability of natural and raw mineral resources for further development of Republika Srpska. The issue of sustainable development, in terms of strengthening the economic structure and geopolitical position of RS and BiH in relation to the surrounding countries, becomes a matter of strategic approach to the organization and development of the mineral complex.

Mining waste as a base for the formation of technogenic minerals

Purpose. Based on open sources of information, review the current state and storage of waste from mining, primary (concentration) and secondary processing of mineral raw materials. To provide a current system for the existence and transformation of mining waste in relation to the category of promising developments as the basis for the formation and study of the mineralogical and geochemical features of the formation or process of formation of technogenic minerals. Predict the variation in the geological and economic assessment of the massif as a newly created deposit. The methods. The work uses general scientific research methods – empirical and theoretical (analysis, generalization, explanation). Findings. A preliminary review of the existing types of waste from industrial sectors where mining and processing of minerals is carried out is carried out as the basis for modern mineral formation of technogenic (technical) minerals. A general modern structural diagram of the system of mineral raw materials and mining waste is presented. The originality. The potential of the existence of technogenic minerals has been revealed.It is shown that at present, technogenic raw materials are a competitive, promising mineral resource, the use of which using innovative technologies provides not only a significant technical and economic effect, but also, along the way, an environmental effect is achieved as a natural consequence of the new level of requirements of modern production. In addition, this makes it possible to reduce the negative impact on the environment, reduce the area of alienated land for the needs of mining production, and also partly solves the problem of resource conservation. Practical implementation. The result of the review can be used for planning and carrying out further scientific and methodological research of the mineralogical and geochemical characteristics of waste from mining and processing of minerals, supergene processes occurring in technogenic massifs, expanding and deepening mineralogical research in the field of environmental mineralogy in connection with technological.

Influence of mineral raw material processing on the qualitative and quantitative indicators of crushed stone production

Purpose. Explore the impact of raw material processing stages on qualitative and quantitative production indicators and devise technological schemes for processing mineral raw materials to produce crushed stone products. Methodology. The study employs theoretical analysis, information systematization, and generalization of key physical and mechanical properties of rocks suitable for construction materials. We investigate the nuances in utilizing various crushers based on productivity and input material size. Additionally, technological schemes for crushing and sorting plants are visualized using AutoCAD to obtain finished crushed stone products for concrete and asphalt mixtures. Findings. The study revealed that the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of finished products are influenced by various factors, including the granulometric composition of the raw material, type and number of impurities, presence of vises and needle-shaped grains, number of crushing stages, screening requirements at individual stages, and the type of crushing equipment. Efficiency of the complex is contingent upon the optimization and calculations of the technological line for each specific raw material type. Performance indicators of crushing equipment types can be calculated based on productivity. Common typical technological schemes have been identified, adaptable to specific production conditions. Originality. Optimal typical technological schemes for mineral raw material processing have been identified. These schemes are adaptable to variable productivity and quality requirements for finished products, particularly with a three-stage crushing scheme. Practical implications. Proposed technological schemes enable continuous and cost-effective crushing, reducing power supply delays due to clogging of the feeding hole. These schemes also enhance operating conditions for lining, contributing to the prolonged service life of crushers. The application of these schemes is particularly beneficial in the active quarries of Ukraine for the extraction and processing of raw materials to produce crushed stone products.

Environmental, Social and Economic Sustainability in Mining Companies as a Result of the Interaction between Knowledge Management and Green Innovation—The SEM Approach

The mining industry is one of the greatest polluters of the environment and has direct positive and negative impacts on all three pillars of sustainable development: economy, environment and society. Due to the aforementioned, primarily negative impacts on the environment, it is important to implement sustainability principles in the operations of companies in the mining industry. The implementation of the sustainability principle enables the economically profitable, ecologically clean and socially responsible exploitation and processing of mineral raw materials. This means of doing business requires the introduction of clean or green technologies, which are the product of green innovation. The innovation process is highly dependent on knowledge. Knowledge has a great contribution to creativity and the creation of innovation. Accordingly, knowledge management activities and the ability of a company to use and combine different sources of knowledge are essential for the creation of different types of innovation, including green innovation. The research, including the pilot test, was carried out in the period of May–August 2022, whereby convenience sampling was used to obtain 626 employees in six mining companies in Serbia. The structural equation modeling approach was used to evaluate the causal relationship between knowledge management, green innovation and the sustainable operations of the mining industry. The indirect effects of the dimensions of knowledge management, through the dimensions of green innovation, on the dimensions of sustainable development were examined using the bootstrap procedure. The results of the study confirmed the positive direct and indirect relations between the constructs. The research indicates the importance of including all components of knowledge management and green innovation in achieving all components of business sustainability.

DIATOMITES AND OPOKA FROM WESTERN KAZAKHSTAN DEPOSITS: LITHOGEOCHEMISTRY, STRUCTURAL AND TEXTURAL PARAMETERS, POTENTIAL OF USE

In recent decades, individual studies in the Republic of Kazakhstan have been aimed at expanding the potential of using rocks of large and industrial exploitation of silicite deposits for revising their physicochemical, mineralogical parameters, and assessing the prospects for expanding their use in new industries and technologies in the construction and technical industries, materials science based on deep chemical processing of mineral raw materials. The article presents new data on the chemical-mineralogical and structural parameters of diatomites from the Utesai deposit and opoka from the Taskala deposit of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The main aim: comprehensive analysis of the chemical-mineral composition and structural and textural features of rocks from two largest deposits of silicon raw materials in the Western part of Kazakhstan – the Utesai diatomite deposit and the Taskala opoka deposit. Objects: diatomites of the Utesai deposit and opoka of the Taskala deposits in the western part of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Methods: field research, lithological and petrographic analysis of thin sections, X-ray diffraction analysis, differential thermal analysis, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray fluorescence analysis. Results. The studied diatomites and opoka are characterized by a high degree of homogeneity; they are represented by typical phases for silicic rocks of the region – opal-CT, clay minerals with an admixture of quartz and feldspars. From the mineralogical point of view, the most obvious difference between the studied diatomites and the Trans-Urals is the significant content of kaolinite – over 10 %, while in the diatomites of the Trans-Urals, the main clay component is smectite and mixed-layer illite-smectite formations. The rocks under consideration are clayey diatomites and clayey flasks, the total content of basic oxides allows us to characterize raw materials as medium quality, most suitable for the production of foam glass materials, and, in particular, glass fiber, in the production of which alumina is an important functional component. At the same time, the significant content of clay and other impurities does not allow us to recommend such raw materials for the production of filter and sorbing materials.

ANALYSIS OF ENVIRONMENTAL RISK FACTORS IN SELECTED MINING ACTIVITIES

Mining of raw materials and their modification has a negative impact on the environment. During the mining and processing of mineral raw materials (coal, oil, ore), solid, liquid and gaseous wastes are created. The production of waste is linked to the mining site, respectively production. Many of the negative phenomena can be minimized or even eliminated by using appropriate technologies and work procedures. At the present, the search and secondary use of large-volume waste is gaining more and more importance. In the underground, possibilities are offered in the field of fire prevention, closing and disposal of mine works, fill and so on. A thorough assessment of the criteria and their compliance during implementation creates a basic prerequisite for the use of underground waste with the verification that there will be no release of hazardous pollutants from the source of harmful substances as well as that the elements of the environment will not be endangered and the use of waste will be safe.

Digitalization Of Subsurface Use Technologies

Trends in the digitalization of the economy show that industries engaged in the extraction and processing of mineral raw materials will sooner or later have to face the problems of introducing new management technologies. The expected innovations deal with a large amount of data both in terms of the characteristics of the initial state of the object, and when monitoring changes in its parameters at all stages of the transformation of raw materials into a marketable product. A method for assessing the factors determining the digitalization of the industry, as well as studying the readiness of mining and technological redistribution for the introduction of new management technologies. ОЦЕНКА ДОСТУПНОСТИ МИНЕРАЛЬНО-СЫРЬЕВОЙ БАЗЫ МЕДИ

The paper presents the results of studies on the reserves availability of copper-containing ores. Comparative analysis of the mineral resource bases of Russia, Chile, the USA and the world as a whole is carried out using cumulative availability curves. The curves represent a graph of cumulative volumes of proved mineral reserves, ranked by the degree of economic feasibility of their involvement in the development, depending on the estimated price for this type of mineral products. The estimated price is determined based on considerations of the minimum level of the development profitability. The authors propose an approach to determining the estimated price depending on the probabilities of deposits involvement in development. The approach is based on the construction of “content-reserves” diagrams for operated and reserve mineral deposits and can be used in conditions of limited availability of information about the parameters and conditions for the development of specific reserves. For the compared mineral resource bases, the sizes of economically available copper reserves have been established at present, the limits of possible increment in available reserves have been determined with favorable changes in the market position of mineral commodity markets and improvement of the extraction tehnology and processing of mineral raw materials.

Физико-химические и структурно-поверхностные свойства диоксида кремния, получаемого из минерального сырья

Samples of amorphous silicon dioxide (SiO2) were obtained by acid decomposition of mineral raw materials (nepheline). Their physico-chemical, acid-base and structural-surface properties have been studied by methods of chemical analysis, Parks, BET, BJH, etc. It was found that in terms of the content of impurities, the pH of the aqueous extract, the pH values of the isoionic point and the zero charge point, the SiO2 samples obtained are almost identical to pyrogenic amorphous silicon dioxide obtained from reactive raw materials (pharmaceutical preparation “Polysorb PM”) and have an increased specific external surface compared to “Polysorb PM” (in 1.1 – 1.9 times) and specific pore volume (1.4 times). Based on the obtained values of the specific capacity of the adsorption monolayer of the surface of SiO2 samples and the change in Gibbs energy (ΔG0) during sorption, it is concluded that the method of their preparation does not significantly affect the physicochemical properties of their surfaces and the mechanism of nitrogen sorption. Based on the results obtained, an assumption is made about the prospects of using silicon dioxide, obtained on the basis of acid processing of mineral raw materials, as an enterosorbent in therapeutic practice.

Specific features of the use of pulverized coal fuel in combined chemical processing

Expanding the applications of combined thermochemical processing of mineral raw materials is one of the priority development areas in the non-ferrous metals industry. In particular, combined processes involving reduction roasting and the Waelz process are considered very promising, for example, for additional recovery of non-ferrous and accessory metals from metallurgical cakes. The first chemical stage of these reduction processes is the conversion of carbon fuel into carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide in the presence of oxygen and water vapor. The urgency of a detailed study of this stage is due, among other reasons, to the many problems related to CO2 emissions into the environment. Carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere are largely associated with the operation of furnace units that consume a significant amount of carbon-containing utility products. Operation of tubular rotary furnaces involves high temperatures, achieved by burning various types of fuels. This article discusses the process of burning pulverized coal fuel that results in an incomplete burnout of coal particles. Subsequent exposure of the unburned solid phase to the combustion products leads to the formation of a multicomponent heterogeneous system that maintains the synthesis reactions for CO and H2. These reactions, occurring at high temperatures, change the equilibrium composition of the combustion products dramatically. An algorithm is proposed for calculating the equilibrium composition by solving a system of nonlinear equations. The calculation was made by the iterative Newton’s method at a constant temperature, assumed on the basis of the calculated theoretical combustion temperature of the fuel of a given composition.

Principles of rational processing of red mud with the use of carboxylic acids

Due to the known limitations of economic nature, the global production complex continues to focus on the most accessible technologies of alumina production, leading to the accumulation of solid waste (red mud), which has created the well-known problem of their processing, and its scale and importance continue to grow in connection with the steady increase in the world volume of aluminum production and consumption. The priority of rational use of natural resources allows us to speak about the preference of principles of deep and waste-free processing of mineral raw materials, which are fully applicable to the processing of red mud, as accumulated raw materials of technogenic origin. At the same time, the key point of this approach becomes the hierarchical division of components into groups of technological products, taking into account the processes that ensure this selective-group division. In this regard, the use of carboxylic acids is of notable interest, as they have a known selectivity to the main components of red mud, which allows to separate low-soluble components (iron and silicon compounds) from light and rare-earth metals with minimum consumption rates. An experimental study has shown that flow-through leaching of thermochemically prepared red mud using formic acid provides high and acceptable recoveries of sodium, calcium, scandium, and rare earth metals. This makes it affordable to use the cheapest method of apparatus-free leaching when implementing this approach on an industrial scale. Experimentally determined the differences in the sequence of elution of sodium, calcium, aluminum and rare-earth metals formates during flow leaching, which creates favorable conditions for concentrating components and separate processing of sampled solutions. The regime parameters of the process that provides complete precipitation of aluminum, scandium and rare earth metals during the neutralization of formate solution with milk of lime, resulting in the necessary prerequisites for further concentration of rare earth metals to obtain technologically significant product are determined. The main part of technological processes in almost all industries, including those related to transportation, processing of mineral raw materials, cannot be implemented without the use of electric motors. The high reliability of these machines ensures trouble-free operation and guarantees the safety of people in these industries. The reliability indicators of electric machines depend on the insulation condition of the windings, which is largely determined by the saturation of the winding cavities with the impregnating compound that penetrated them during impregnation. Various manufacturing technologies of mica-containing electrical insulating tapes used as case insulation of coils of traction electric motors (TED) are considered. The main reasons for the failure of traction engines are presented. The existing types of insulation, their possible composition, features and applications are described. A brief description of the main methods of manufacturing electrical insulating mica-containing tapes is given, an assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of each of the technologies are presented. The methods of testing the initial semi-finished tapes and finished insulation are described.

2022 marks the 165th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Russian scientist Ivan Alekseevich Kablukov. The main field of scientific interests and discoveries of Academician Kablukov relates to electrochemistry of non-aqueous solutions. I. A. Kablukov is also known as a teacher and populariser of science, the founder of the school of physical chemists in Russia, as the author of a number of works on the history of chemistry.In 1896, at the Moscow Imperial Engineering School of the Department of Railways (now Russian University of Transport), Kablukov founded the Department of Chemistry, which he led for a long time.
